Feed the Streets
Housing insecurity is an ongoing issue in American society and Portland is no exception. Food is a fundamental human right, and people experiencing housing insecurity often lack access to nutritious, well-rounded food. Our Streets helps alleviate this obstacle by providing more than 1,000 meals every day of the week to shelters, service providers, and community partners throughout the city for Portland’s housing and food insecure residents.
Feed the Streets began as a mission in the summer of 2020 to get food to people living on the streets of Portland. Our Streets’ first month as an organization consisted of preparing brown bag meals in a Cofounder’s kitchen. Within months, the volunteer staff was working out of a commercial kitchen, where more than 250 meals were prepared every week to be distributed in Southwest Portland. Today, Feed the Streets operates seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Preparing Meals
Through the meal program, Our Streets serves shelters operated by Do Good Multnomah, All Good Northwest, and Cultivate Initiatives. Meals are prepared in two commercial kitchens and delivered by drivers to the shelters and villages in the Portland metro area. This includes free meals to community partners and extra meals to free fridges for any community member in need to access.
